From Classroom to Real Projects: A 3+5-Day German Communication Course for Engineering Students

Learning German Through Real Project Work

In CW 26/2026, we had the opportunity to conduct a five-day German communication course for engineering students as part of an EU university project.

Instead of traditional classroom lessons, participants became members of a project team. Each participant received a professional role, such as:

  • Project Manager
  • Client Representative
  • Contractor
  • Quality Inspector
  • External Auditor

Their task was to communicate entirely in German while planning, negotiating and completing a realistic engineering project.

German in Real Situations

Throughout the week, participants:

  • presented project updates,
  • negotiated technical issues,
  • wrote reports,
  • discussed quality problems,
  • prepared meetings,
  • carried out a final project acceptance.

The focus was not only on grammar, but on professional communication.

Interactive Learning

The course combined:

✔ role play

✔ teamwork

✔ technical vocabulary

✔ authentic project scenarios

✔ speaking practice from the first day

What Participants Said

„I finally felt confident speaking German in a professional context.“

„The role play helped me remember new vocabulary.“

„I would definitely recommend this course.“

Looking Ahead

The same learning method is now part of our German speaking courses for international professionals.

If you would like to improve your German through realistic communication instead of traditional exercises, we would be happy to welcome you.
